Creating a Mindful Campus will begin the afternoon of April 14th and will continue through April 15th.  Below is a tentative schedule.  Please check back for updates.

Friday, April 14th

Saturday, April 15th

9:30 -10:15 AM – Day’s Opening Circle

10:15 – 11:45 AM – Workshop with Beth BerilaUnlearning Oppression: Reframing Student “Resistance” as Dissonance

When learning about social justice, many students respond in ways that are often characterized as “resistance.” And yet, those responses are both predictable and even inevitable in authentic discussions about power, privilege, and oppression. This talk will invite participants to reframe student reactions as the inevitable dissonance that occurs when students’ worldviews are unsettled.  Participants will explore some tools for meeting students where they are while offering students some resources to navigate the discomfort that arises when their paradigms are challenged. We will also discuss how to negotiate different and even conflicting lived experiences in the classroom in ways that allow us to build both compassionate and accountable communities.
